Chapter 1 - Kinematics
Learning Outcomes:
After this chapter, you should be able to :
1. define displacement, speed, velocity and acceleration.
2. use graphical methods to represent distance travelled, displacement, speed, velocity and acceleration.
3. find displacement from the area under a velocity-time graph.
4. use the slope of a dispalcement-time graph to find velocity.
5. use the slope of a velocity-time graph to find acceleration.
6. solve problems using equations which represent uniformly accelerated motion in a straight line.
7. describe and explain motion due to uniform velocity in one direction and a uniform acceleration in a perpendicular direction.

Good Vid, Teacher..
ReplyDeleteI am more understanding while view this vid..
Please upload more vid that can make student more easily to understand the chapter..
err, teacher, i wanna ask u something..
ReplyDeletethe first day, i mean lecturer on tues..
u told us to draw to ball drop from high 50m until the ground right??
when the ball goes up, the gravity - right??
but why when the ball fall to ground, the gravity - again??
not + meh??
do u think that u type wrong or i misunderstand??
Hi Mr.Zai,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question. This is the common question asked by many students.
To determine the sign convention (+ or -) of gravity, you must observe the initial direction of the object. There are 2 motions,
(1) ball is thrown up and then falling down to the ground.
(2) ball is released from the max height.
For case (1), the initial direction of the ball is against the gravity, so it is -g. The sign will remain as negative even though the ball is falling down to ground.
For case (2), the initial direction of the ball is towards the gravity, so it is +g. It will remain positive throughout the motion.
Sign convention for gravity is different from velocity and displacement. Both velocity and displacement will be positive if the ball is thrown up but will change to negative when the ball is falling down in the opposite direction.
Dear HanMing,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment.
Do not worry, U will have chance to view the video clip in lecture as well as the blogspot here.
Dear Students,
ReplyDeletePlease go to the blog" Welcome to Engineering Science 1" for the recommended book list.
You are advised to buy a STPM or A Level Physics reference books not only for Engineering Science 1 but also for Engineering Science 2 and Applied Engineering.
Teacher,
ReplyDeletethe second video have the three graph..
the X for the first 1 is displacement??
Dear Soonsean,
ReplyDeleteYes, x represent displacement.
